Research

The research conducted in the Geohouse covers a wide range of topics. In bedrock geology, the emphasis is on the Fennoscandian shield, including crustal structures, geochemical evolution and magmatic processes, as well as on economic geology related to ore-forming processes. Quaternary terrestrial, lacustrine and marine sediments are studied to understand past and future climatic, water quality and other environmental changes. The geochemical environmental studies focus on acid sulfate soils, lake and Baltic Sea studies, and the geochemistry of rocks. Archaeologists work especially on the Iron Age, and the historical period of Finland and the Baltic Sea Region.
